The Ecuador Chronicles - 2010-46

The Staff of Life and More;
            Take a Look at SomePanaderías in El sur;
                             With an Ecuador Healthy Lifestyle - No Weight Gain

This week David Sass tells us more about life (and food) in El Sur - the southside of Quito.  Not many visitors venture into this part of Quito, and I suspect not many expats live there - but David makes it sound pretty good.  I really started getting hungry just loading David's photos into the web page.  Take it away David.

The Staff of Life and More!

An Ecuadorian without bread is…….not an Ecuadorian!  I bet Ecuadorians consume more bread per capita than any other nation in the world.  Aside from all the restaurants and eating establishments, there are more Panaderías (Bakeries) and Pastelerías (Confectioners Shops) in Ecuador than I have ever seen.  They are everywhere!  Especially in the local neighborhoods, you can`t walk down a street without seeing a Bakery.  From early morning until late at night one can find fresh bread anywhere in Ecuador.

There are Panaderías everywhere in El Sur.  Most are small establishments, but some are on a grand scale.  Here are two of our favorites within a short walking distance from home.  Both are small but exceptional family businesses.

Panaderías in El Sur - El Golosito

The first is El Golosito.  As most, open every day from early morning until late at night.  Really good bread.

Rosquillas

Pan Selecto

Here is Pan Selecto.  A family business with the entire family working every day.  This is our number one Panadería.  Bolivar and Mónica Arboleda with their children make it a pleasure to return time and time again to buy their high quality bread and pastries.

 No Weight Gain

You would think that eating so much bread every day would make you gain weight.  Somehow this just does not happen.  Maybe it’s the fiber or carbohydrates.  Who knows???  All I can say is...........Mmmmmmmm!

Thanks Again David

I suspect not gaining weight relates to the overall healthy lifestyle you and Yadira are living in Ecuador - although, I think I put on a few pounds just looking at the pictures.
