The Ecuador Chronicles - 2011-32

Note to Ecuador Chronicle Readers:

The Ecuador Chronicles will be taking a Late Summer / Early Fall break.  Your editor needs a little break to catch up on some personal business.  We will be back in Early October. Thanks to all of you for your interest and support.

See you in October - Ray

Feed The Hungry;
             A Restaurant in Conocoto;
                                       Pork for Breakfast is Perfect

Today we have another Chronicle from regular contributor David Sass.  Today David covers one of his favorite restaurants which happens to be in Conocoto.  We have noted in the past that LWE Principal Mathieu Guillory owns and second home in Conocoto.  Conocoto and several other communities are located in El Valle, east of Quito, but still close enough for easy access to the city.  Some areas of El Valle are quite upscale.  Due to its lower elevation El Valle has a slightly warmer climate than Quito, which many people prefer.  Take it away David!

Feed the Hungry

Hola!

It’s Sunday morning.  Yadira & I are hungry.  Papa & Mami want to eat breakfast at a local restaurant.  After a 30 minute drive we arrive in Conocoto where Mathieu & his family have a home.  A short drive through the streets & we are soon at one of our favorite eating establishments:  Los Famosos Hornados de Conocoto, N2-30 Mariscal Sucre y Luis A. Proaño.

There is no sign on the little restaurant but it is easy to find —
look for all the parked cars

This is a very popular local restaurant that only serves roast pork -
It’s only open on week-ends and is always crowded

Here is Mercedes Taco, owner, with the first pig of the day

Tortillas de Papa

Just a small little place, maybe eight tables - Where is Mathieu?

Hornado Completo

Hornado Completo con aguacate, mote, cuero, agrio, tortillas de papa

(Roast pork, avocado, boiled corn, pig skin, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, yellow beans, carrots, mashed fried potatoes)

Disclaimer: Eating pig meat is 100% safe and doesn´t cause swine flu!
The wait for a seat is well worthwhile - The atmosphere is friendly and the food is always fresh and oh, so good!

Happy customers
It’s not even 10 AM & yes, this is breakfast!  Los Famosos has been open for hours & the customers keep coming.

It’s us!  David, Yadira, Papá, and a little customer waiting to eat -
Papá, don’t eat the dog!

Mercedes Taco, David & Papá

Doesn’t that look good?

Mami is smiling - The food is good!

Glad you came to visit us. Hope you enjoyed the food. Chao! Oink! Oink!

  Feed the Hungry

David - This looks like a great place.  I have not yet been to Mathieu's new cafe in Quito - but I know you and Yadira went and had a great time with Matt.  So, I have a lot of catching up to do in Ecuador.  We will look froward to more Chronicles from you in the future.
